International Coalition for Children with Imprisoned Parents – INCCIP conference
We are pleased to announce The International Coalition for Children with Imprisoned Parents – INCCIP- conference: “Justice and the Children of Incarcerated Parents”, which will be held in Auckland, New Zealand from 20th to 23rd March 2017. See the website here.
Children of prisoners are usually ignored by the criminal justice system and are not typically recognized by social service systems as having particular needs. In both developing and developed countries, as collateral victims of incarceration children of prisoners face violations of their human rights and are left vulnerable to a wide range of risks and harm.
Some of INCCIP’s aims include sharing information through research concerning families of prisoners, sharing examples of good practice in order to improve what is being done around the world to create interventions and safety nets for children of prisoners and to influence and foster policy and legislation regarding children of prisoners at local, national, regional, and international levels;
Its Based on these aims, that INCCIP will be holding its inaugural conference
We anticipate to have great keynote speakers. We have already announced Madison Strempek, child author of ‘Everybody Makes Mistakes‘, as a keynote. We are expecting huge national and international media interest in a young person who has become such a strong advocate for her imprisoned father.
Also keynotes are being confirmed on the topics of ‘child-blind justice‘ and ‘an agenda for change’.
Further keynote announcements will be made .
TRAVEL TO NEW ZEALAND
We are noting great travel specials to NZ in March, If you are intending to come, you should set up an alert with a website such as SkyScanner to monitor prices. Don’t forget that most of you will lose a day coming over and regain it on the way home.
The conference hotel is beautifully located and newly decorated, but might be a bit expensive for some at $NZ229 (around $US150) per night. The main alternative is at the nearby Ibis hotel at $NZ99 ($$ ??) per night. The area is also well-populated with good quality hostels starting from $NZ25 ($$ ??) per night in a shared dorm, to $NZ75($$ ??) for a double room.
We will be putting up a form on the website for registration at the beginning of September, and the payment system as well. Early bird registration will apply until the end of the year.
